remote shutdown and restart

Remote Desktop will not allow me to reboot or shutdown a computer.
Those options do not exist in the Start Menu, only Log Off and
Disconnect are available.

I would like a way to remotely restart and turn off a remote system.
Is there a registry setting or a command line option to do such?

I tried running shutdown -s from the Run dialog of the remote system
and it acted like it worked, but the system remained on.

Are you an administrator on the remote machine? Normal users would not have
that permission if the server you are connecting to is properly configured.

"shutdown -s -m \\computername" from your localmachine. "shutdown /?" for
more options.

I am a local and domain administrator. Neither account can restart or
shutdown the system through Remote Desktop.

Then it is possible that this has been disabled through group policy on the
machine.

I may be mistaken, but I think "badgolferman"

Create a desktop shortcut to "taskmgr.exe", then it's on a option on the
menus

No such option on the menu that I can see.

Latest reports suggest that it was "badgolferman"
No such option on the menu that I can see.

Click on the shortcut and look for a "Shutdown" menu at the top. Otherwise
it's some other issue, like the Group Policy setting Tom Porterfield
mentioned.

Does not exist, even on my own workstation which is part of the Domain
also.

I am testing the command line options again. I'm starting to think I
must have used shutdown /s instead of shutdown -s and that's why it
didn't work before.
