Remote Procedure Call

Sorry to be a nuisance, looks like I'm going to have to buy a book :)
In the meantime......I have just been on the internet via a dial up 3 times
and after about 10 minutes I had a failure saying

" Remote Procedure Call" service terminated unexpectedly, machine will shut
down.....

I thought I had left this kind of thing behind with win98.
The event logs don't really tell me much about the problem, just that it
happened!
Am I doing something wrong??
All help gladly accepted.
Again, sorry for the flood of queries.

NoNoBadDog!

Sounds like you have a virus.

Do you have antivirus software and a good firewall installed?

Is your antivirus software updated?

Beig up to date. Did you also remove the virus?? If you did not remove the
virus, then you could still be infected with it.

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabled a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and before installing
the KB828471 Hotfix, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
