CHristine

I keep getting an error message when i logon to internet
in my dialup connection.it states that my remote
procedure call (RPC)has been terminated and my computer
shuts down and reboots after one minute.
I have no idea what this relates to, or how to fix it.

remote procedure call (RPC)
A message-passing facility that allows a distributed
application to call services that are available on
various computers on a network. Used during remote
administration of computers.

I have network access account as well.

Hi Christine:

I was in the Newsgroups actually looking for a way to
open multiple files using one shortcut on my desktop when
I happened to come to your problem while nosing around
(curiosity kills the cat, I know, but...)

Anyhoo, you have the msblaster virus. I had to fix that
for one of my friends. There are two things you have to
do:

1. Close the prot from which the blaster virus is able to
come in. Supposedly it is an unused internet port that
Microsoft forgot to close (in XP). You can get the file
from Microsoft download page.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?
displaylang=en

In case the the link above is not a "hyperlink", copy
entire link and paste to your address bar. On this page,
the #1. download is on the Blaster Worm Security patch.
Download and run it. Read up on what it is fixing at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;826955

and

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;823980

and

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

2. Get the msblaster virus removal tool, you can find
that on Symantec's site (Norton Antivirus)

http://www.symantec.com/downloads/

Look for virus removal tools, MS Blaster. Chances are you
have the "Welchia" virus too. Get that tool too, and run
it. If you don't have the virus it'll tell you it wasn't
found.

3. If you have Norton Antivirus, and a subscription
to "LiveUpdate" from them, download your new virus
definitions so that Antivirus can detect future intrusions

One This I forgot to mention. Get the patch and tools
using someone else's PC and burn otno CD, becuase you
WON'T have enough time to download before your RPC
message comes back... That's how the worm is "gettin'"
you... Also, I originally said "two" things to do, it
expanded to "three"
