Hi,

I was wondering if anyone of you has attempted to do a
remote install of Windows XP Pro from NT 4? I'm not quite
sure how I am supposed to go about it if it is possible.
The only real information that I can find is for RIS on
Win2K Server and a little bit about RemoteBoot service on
NT4. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Regards,

Matthew Kimber

You cannot use RIS or Sysprep to upgrade an operating system.
The only automated installation method you can use to perform
upgrades is an unattended installation using Winnt32.exe.

It is possible to deploy Windows XP from an NT Server using Argon Client Management Service (CMS). Like Microsoft RIS, allows you to deploy Windows 2K/XP via a PXE network boot but without the overhead of Active Directory. You can install CMS on a Windows NT server or workstation, if you wish.

For more information or to download a 15-day trial version, visit http://www.argontechnology.com/cms/easier_way.shtml

The NT Remoteboot Service is primarily use to run DOS, Win 3.x or Win 95 on diskless computers. The Windows Remoteboot Service is not available for the Windows 2000/2003 server.

I use the BootManage Administrator from bootix Technology (www.bootix.com).
He support all operating systems like NT, XP, 2000, 2003.
Also he support Ghost and Powerquest installations.
And the best of all ist the price ;)
