Remote Help?????

Saine

Hey Friends,

I need your help:
One of my friends lives in different country, he has
problem in his computer and he did me to solve. Both of us
we are using dialup connections, by using Internet can I
view his computer and work on it? I am using the Windows
XP Pro, and he is also using Windows XP. Is there any free
download software that I have to download and run it on my
computer to view his computer? If it's then from where I
can download that software?. I downloaded 1 before it was
asking the IP address of that remote computer. I didn't
know how to get the IP even I did ask him, he gave me but
I wasn't able to connect.

Any help any idea?

Thank you very much.

Hi Saine,

This is a place to start:

Overview of Remote Assistance in Windows XP

Ensure that if either system is behind a router, that port forwarding to the
internal IP of the machine is set up for port 3389. To get the local IP of a
system, start/run cmd, then enter ipconfig.

try doing a goodle search on vns server.. coz i can't
remember where to get it, but that is a program that
allows you to view another remote computer, handy tool.
your friend will need to download this too.. and to
connect you'll need to get the ip of the other computer.
tell your friend to go to start > programs > accessories
'command prompt'. then type in ipconfig, a few lines
should show up, look for an "ip address"
(xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) under PPP adapter settings (or
something similar). You'll have to look in the vns server
on how to actually connect the two computers

hope this helps, Deano

I think you mean VNC?

XP Remote-Assistance is the thing to try first, though.

Tell him to find his dial-up internet, right click and go
to properties, click the networking tab, double click
the "internet protocol (tcp/ip)", in the nest box should
be his ip address, unless he obtains the address
automatically... in this case i could only recommend the
ipconfig method...
