I recently purchased and installed a remote hard drive enclosure. In the
enclosure I installed a hard drive from an older pc. The enclosure came with
a usb cable which is connected. Can anyone explain how to access the remote
drive. How would I assign a drive letter to it. When in the control panel it
says it is recognized and normal, but that is as far as I can get. I would
like to open the files from the remote drive. Thanks in advance.

Did you leave the existing partitions and data in tact on the older
drive ? - If so, then XP should show them in Disk Management.
Click Start, Run (Type) DiskMgmt.Msc [Enter]
The USB external drive should appear as Drive 1 or Higher and
be recognizable by it's total size. Check to make sure the entire
bar graph representing the drive isn't marked as "Unallocated".
This would mean the drive is essentially blank and needs to have
partition(s) created and then formatted with your preferred format.
