I want to connect my computer (Windows XP Home) to
another computer in another city (Windows 98), using the
remote desktop. Is this possible and if so, can anyone
tell me how to do this?

Thanks

I believe the best way to do is setup VPN. For more and other information,
go to http://www25.brinkster.com/ChicagoTech >setup vpn.

Don't send e-mail or reply to me except you need consulting services.

Well, you can't use XP Remote Desktop since it does not run as a host on Windows 98. Your best bet
may be either NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS) or VNC. You can get the VNC software from
http://www.realvnc.com or http://www.tightvnc.com

Note that the VNC data stream is *NOT* encrypted like the RDS data stream is. Over the public
internet that is a potential security risk. Some folks run VNC through VPN tunnels as Robert
mentioned, although since you apparently want to access/control the remote Windows 98 box from the
XP Home box that may be a problem. Are there VPN servers that run on Windows 98? If you want to
access/control the XP Home box from the Windows 98 box, then setup the VPN server on the XP Home
box.

NetMeeting is built-in to XP and 2000 and can *NOT* be upgraded. Look at this KB article for help
with RDS...
