What needs to be configured on the 2000 server to be able
to connect?
I am able to use it to connect to a 2000 Small Bussiness

Try RealVNC on both involved machines (the remote one uses VNC
Viewer, the local one VNC Server):
http://www.realvnc.com/

- The server must run Terminal Server
- You must authorise your user account to run Remote Desktop

WinVNC is great because it runs on any system and it's easy to
install. However, Remote Desktop runs circles around WinVNC
when it comes to speed, authentication, printing and file transfer.

I turned on Terminal services on the server I then tried
to connect to the server from home using XP Pro remote
desktop but it could not see the server.
The server is behind a Linksys router using PPOE as a DSL
connect. Port 3389 is on. Our IP is a 10.10.x.x scheme.
I have tried to connect using the address of the server
and also the address of the router which keeps changing.
I am trying to figure out what I am missing.
Again any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're coming in from the outside then you obviously
have to use the router's address. The server address
will not be visible!

You must now set up a port forwarding rule on the
router so that all packets for port 3389 are forwarded
to your server.

To test things, telnet from the outside to port 3389. If you
get a response then Remote Desktop will probably work.

If your external address keeps changing then you will
have to register a free domain name with someone such
as www.no-ip.com or www.dyndns.org.
