Hi, everyone.

I hope this is the appropriate newsgroup for this question. If
not, please let me know where I should post it.

I have a PC on a home network running Windows XP Pro. It has a
wireless connection to a DSL modem/router (an Actiontec GT701-WG)
and is running ZoneAlarm Security Suite 5.1 (ZoneAlarm Pro with
added features).

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to set up the router and
ZoneAlarm to allow incoming Remote Desktop sessions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

in order to access your PC via Windows Remote Desktop you have to change
settings in your router and in Zonealarm.
In the router you need to forward incoming connections on TCP port 3389 to
you pc. then you also have to set the same permissions in Zone Alarm for
incoming connections on this port. That should be it.
For more detailed information I would need to know the make and model of
your router.
And you should for sequrity reasons change the listen port for your remote
desktop since the standard port would be the first point for trying
intruders.
A more detailed explaination http://www.microsoft.
com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/northrup_03may16.mspx
and changing the port

I hope that will help you out.

I hope that will help you out.

It did. That's exactly what I needed. Thanks.

Is there a particular range of port numbers that you would
recommend for replacing 3389?
