Remote Desktop printing

Debbie

I thave been using the remote desktop feature to work
from home for some time now. I recently upgraded my
printer from an older HP model using the old printer
connecion to a newer HP model with a USB Port. I am
having trouble getting the work computer to recognise the
home printer. I am using XP professional at work and at
home and the printer is functioning fine from home to
home.

I think the problem lies in the setup on the work
computer or the fact that the prionter at work and the
printer at home now are both in a port with the same
name. I have gotten as far as to install the printer at
work where it seems to be correct and sends a document to
the cue right away but then I get an error message
telling me the document did not print. Can anyone point
me to an article specific to this?

Debbie,

I was having the same issue. I found that HP has a site
to help you. It is

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/hub_search/document.jhtml?
lc=en&docName=bpu04830#N10106

It should tell you which printer driver to use for the
new printer. The port to connect the home printer to is
something like TS001?????. (This needs to be done from
home while connected to work.) I was able to get my
printer to work at home while connected to the office.
However, I did find one problem. Everytime I connect to
the office I have to reinstall the printer. It has
something to do with "built in printer drivers" in XP.
Apparently the printer driver I have to use is not one of
the "built in" types. (Even though I can select it from
the list of possible printer drivers provided by
Microsoft.)

Microsoft does offer some help with a login scrip for non-
interactive printer installation. My next step is to see
about this login scrip to see if it can ask if I'm
remotely connected and if so to load the home printer's
drivers. If it can't and the script is executed it will
give an error message.

Please let me know if you have found any other solutions
to either of these problems.

Thanks,
Tammy
