Reminders in Custom Calendars

I've created a custom calendar for my dietary needs and would like to have
reminders to pop up when I'm to take my supplements. However, when I attempt
to set a reminder on any of my custom calendar's items, I get a message
stating that the item is not in my "Calendar or Tasks folder". I'm assuming
it means the default Calendar as I can get that to work. I even tried
dragging and dropping the item onto my Tasks folder, but still get the same
message when I attempt to set the Reminder.

Can reminders not be set with custom calendars?

Reminders only fire from your default Inbox, Calendar, Tasks and Contacts
folder unless you use a 3rd party addin to provide reminders from other
folders.

Thanks Ken. I had read that I could drag the item to the task pad, but
couldn't get that to work.

The Task Pad has nothing to do with reminders. A task with a reminder or a
calendar item with a reminder must be in the default Tasks or Calendar
folder for a reminder to fire, unless you use an addin. Otherwise any item
with a reminder in any other folder just turns red when the reminder is due
or overdue.
