Reminder Window Opens intermittently

I have a client with a new HP system with XP Home with all of the MS Updates
installed. I have shut down all unnecessary services (including messenger)
and all unknown startup apps and still every 5 minutes or so a window opens
up with Reminder and the Date and time in the Top Bar and Page not available
in the windows body. In the Task Manager it is listed as an application and
not a service. I searched the registry for "Reminder" and cannot find it.
The system has Norton 2003 and it is updated and scans clean and I installed
and updated and ran AdAware and it made no difference. The only issue I do
see is RealPlayer and the RealSched running in MSConfig and when I disable
it (remove check) it occasionally re-enables itself.

Any Ideas???

Hi Marc,

Check the Task Scheduler for any pending tasks. If that isn't the case, nor
do you have MS Money installed, check your run keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Often these r reminders to register an app u installed.
I have 1 for Dragon but it only runs when Dragon does.

I suspect it's Real but I cant check cause I dont have
it yet. Real is notorios for makin u jump thru hoops &
join lots of stuff.

Any advice given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS. Personal attacks, nitpicking & criticism

I checked the registry run and runonce keys and do not see anything out of
the ordinary.
The system may have Money and Works installed. What can Money be doing??
This is a strange Reminder as it appears to go to the web with the Page not
found message in it.

Hi Marc,

Does it have an MS icon? If so, does the message differ if online when it
appears?

I can only suggest from here to run a spyware cleaner, there are several out
there and also WebWasher:
http://www.webwasher.com/client/home/index.html?lang=de_EN

Spybot -- http://www.safer-networking.org/
Ad-aware -- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

There are also third party reminder programs, one being Bar:
http://download.com.com/3000-2124-10138248.html?tag=lst-0-1

Which would also be listed in your running processes. Get the name of the
exe from there and track it down in the root directory. If it is
wccalrem.exe, this is the Works Calendar reminder.

Good luck!

My client uninstalled Real and did not have Money installed (I was
incorrect) and the Reminder Pop Up still opens every 5 minutes or so.

2 apps I & lots use that catch ALL startups from 5?
places they can start (I think that's more than
MSConfig ):
jv16 PowerTools $0:
http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/jv16powertools.shtml

http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml $0 too

I suppose X could start >> your pop-up. Spyware is
another possibility that I have no experience with.
Question of determining 'parent' of app I've had 4 long
time but not answered despite repeated tries :(
