"Remember my password" Not Visible

W

Walt

I have to keep re-entering the passwords for my mapped
network drives each time I re-connect (logon). I am
using XP Pro SP1.

In trying to answer this for myself, I have read various
Help and Support articles, and they all mention a "Remember
my password" check box.

I have no such check box. :(

I have also found, in other forums, other users complaining
about the same problem, but these users have never gotten
a reply to their plea for help. I am hoping that someone
in this newsgroup knows the answer.

Does anyone know how to get the "Remember my password"
check box? Is there some registry setting or policy
I need to enable or disable to get the "Remember my
password" check box to be displayed when connecting to
mapped network drives?

Hi,

In Windows XP Professional Edition, when a password-protected network
resource is accessed, if we
check the "Remember my password" check box, the "User name and password"
dialog
box will not appear the next time. But in Windows XP Home Edition, this
feature
doesn't exist.

You may like to read the article:
Behavior of Stored User Names and Passwords

to do this:

To connect to a network resource
Use this procedure if your computer is a member of a workgroup, and is not
a member of a domain.
Open My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Map Network Drive.
In Drive, type or select the drive letter to map to the shared resource.
In Folder, type the server and share name of the resource, in the form of
\\server name\share name. Or click Browse to locate the resource.
Click Finish.
In the User name and password dialog box, in User name, type your user name
in the form of domain\user name.
In Password, type your domain password.

To have Windows automatically enter your password the next time you access
this resource, select the Remember my password check box.

Hope this helps.
With Regards,
Asima
