Hi,

I have been running Windows XP in Italian and I'm currently trying to reinstall Windows XP in english. I don't want to loose any of my Windows files or settings, however, when I try to reinstall Windows I receive a message that states that because my operating system is in another language I won't be able to upgrade and will have to do a compete instillation. I'm very concerned that I'm going to lose a lot of files on my computer during the instillation process. Is there any way I can insure that I don't all my files during the process? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The only way to switch to another language is to format the drive(wiping all
data) and then install the english version. Just backup your important files
first.

That's correct.

You will lose *all* your files. When you do a clean installation,
you lose everything currently on the drive.

Is there any
way I can insure that I don't all my files during the process?

No. There's no way to do this except by a clean installation.
Your only choices are to live with the Italian version, or to
backup anything you can't afford to lose and install the English
version cleanly,

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the info.

Do you I need to format the hard drive or is it possible to just proceed to the reinstallation (after I've backed up the necessary files on my hard drive).

After I've backed up my hard drive, how do I go about formatting it?

Boot to the xp cd and follow the on-screen instructions. The cd has all the
tools to format the drive and install xp.

After I've backed up my hard drive, how do I go about formatting it?
