reinstalling SP2 - questions.

I had problems with software and hardware (lost recognition of external hd)
in first install of SP2. Uninstalled all remnants of software and hardware
that were issues and also uninstalled SP2. Have had problems and freezes
ever since.

Should I install SP2 then reinstall the Seagate HD and any software that was
an issue over time and see how they react? The Seagate was not on the list
of Programs that require manual open ports but I think I can follow these
instructions.

Running Windows XP. Also have concerns about Symantec Corporate edition v9.0.
It's been 7 months since last install -- don't want to go thru all that
again -- please advise easiest way to proceed.

If you are currently having problems freezes, do not install SP-2 until
resolved.
Go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer and get their hard drive
diagnostics.
