reinstalling default fonts

Through a convoluted process whose details have been lost in time, the
default font that Windows uses for some functions (currently, crucially, the
Adobe Gamma Wizard) have been replaced with something similar but
larger/bolder that results in crucial information being cut off by the right
edge of the dialog box. I'd like to restore Windows' default relationship to
its default fonts, but the usual settings procedures do not yield what I'm
looking for. Anybody know how to run this particular clock back to zero?

Have you tried:

- 249. Set Default XP Font Back to Tahoma
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

- Open Display Properties, Themes tab, change to XP Theme.

Thanks for your reply--neither of your suggestions had any discernible effect
on my computer. It seems like the actual file containing the font has been
somehow misnamed (though I've no idea how that could've happened), so that
Windows thinks it's using Tahoma where it appears to be using a bold version.
Just a guess, as I don't even know where the font files are located.

- This may or may not repair font files:

Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any are damaged or
missing files, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards
so damaged files will be replaced.

Do you have, and if so have you tried using the Microsoft TWEAKUI
utility? It's available free from Microsoft.

Under "Repair" is a selection to "Repair Font Folder".
It can't hurt to try this before attempting more drastic measures.

Download it from here:

or the direct link to the exe setup file:
