reinstalled WinXP does not recognize ORIGINAL USERS, Software & Do

I had to reinstall WINXP (Home Edition) and the original USERS and software
do not come up on the screen. I know the USERS are there, because they can
be found under My Computer, C, Documents & Settings, ALL USERS. The software
seems to be there as well, but I can't get all of this set up so that it can
be recalled.

I've tried to reinstall my antivirus software, and I can't get it to stick
either.

Any input on how I can get WINXP to recognize the ORIGNIAL USERS, Software
and Documents would be most appreciated, as I am absolutely stumped.

Thanks.

If I understand correctly, you reinstalled XP. When you reinstall all the
users and links to software are deleted from the OS. You have to reinstall
all the software and recreate the users. Don';t know why a reinstall of your
AV program won't take. You might try reinstalling it again.

Well, if the original users are visible, you didn't do a clean install,
which starts from a formatted disk.

And if you'd done a repair install, which isn't always available or
effective if it is available, the original users and registry and system
folders would be used, and the software would work.

So, you must have done a parallel install, which means that the original
registry and Windows folder structure isn't used.

You can't recover these users or programs. They have to be re-created and
reinstalled. Fortunately, this shouldn't take you too long if you have
the install media for the software handy. You already have a list of what
you need to install. For the users, you can just create new user accounts
and copy or import the data from the old ones.
