reinstallation problems

Andrew Bullock

I just tried to reinstall windows xp pro, as my current install has
become clogged up and slow.

I backed everything up and switched off.
Then i removed the serillel ide-sata converted and connected my ide
120gig barracuda to ide0.

When running the installation it said no drives found :s hmmm
after a bit of fiddling i realised i'd connected the ide cable the wrong
way. So i reverse it and try again. Then it says i have no partitions! eeek!

After much swearing i managed to use active partition recovery to scan
for partitions and recreate the mbr. Booting the drive in sata mode
works again! phew!

however if i try to boot as ide it hangs on the windows loading screen,
and windows installer again reports no partitions :s

Any ideas what to do about this?

Thanks for any help :)

Andrew, it would seem to me that there's a setting that you have to
enable or disable in the Bios. Check there if you havent already done so.
