I have a lawn care business. I keep all my financial
files on my computer. After a virus attack, my wife re-
installed Windows xp. I have lost all my files, is there
a way to recover the lost files. Is there any special
program out there that can help.

There are services available that can sometimes recover
overwritten files, but they are *very* expensive and there's no
guarantee that they will be successfull.

You're probably out of luck. Nobody should ever assume that a
file on the harddrive is always going to be there when you need
it. Important files *must* be backed up. If they are important
enough, you should even consider multiple generations of backup.

In your case, I would suggest contacting DriveSavers
(www.drivesavers.com). I'm not sure what the previous poster means by
"very expensive", and certainly DriveSavers isn't cheap, but if they
get your data back for around $1,500 is it worth it? I don't work for
them, but I do refer clients to them and they are great. Only you can
decide how much your business files are worth, but if anyone can
recover the data, DriveSavers can. After that, the next project for you
is to learn how to back up your files onto CD-R and to do it on a
regular basis.

Good luck,

Malke
