Hi all,

I did read a few of the recommended "how to" sites, and I'm now confused
about the source CD issue. I have a full set of XP CDs that I got with my old
(well, less than 2 years old) Compaq laptop. I also just bought a new HP
laptop with which I only got a SP2 CD, no full set.
Now, I'd like to do a clean reinstall on the new HP but do not have the CDs
that go with the existing copy on this machine. The key will not match. Can I
still reinstall using the CDs from my other (legal) machine/XP copy or will
XP assume I'm trying to install an illegal copy, burn my harddrive,
self-destruct, and electrocute me?

Help!
Cornelia

You'll have to contact HP Support and order the correct
HP Recovery CD. You cannot use a different CD with the
HP furnished Windows XP Product Key.

Hi, I was just reading the reply you received, they are correct yo
need to contact HP. For some weird reason HP no longer gives you th
backup CD's it should with out you calling and asking for them, whe
you call them you should ask for anything else you may have to back u
in the future. Hope this help
