Reinstall XP Upgrade

When I initially installed XP, I deleted Windows 98. I need to reinstall XP
as it has slowed down, but when I try, the message indicates that I have a
newer version installed and it will not let me reinstall. I am not able to
uninstall XP as I have converted the file system. What can I do now?
