Reinstall XP to Clear Viruses???

I hope someone has an answer to my problem. Depite my best efforts of keeping
Norton Anti-virus up to date and running Ad-aware almost daily I continue to
get viruses and hijacked. I also lose the ability to use system restore since
none of the restore points hold ( I think a virus is doing this).

I thought reinstalling XP would solve the problem and it does for a short
time but after re-installing twice in the last three weeks I'm back where I
started and am getting porn sites popping up in my favorites, no system
restore, new programs added without being downbloaded. Norton says we have
the Bloodhound virus now.

I'll reinstall again but there must be something I can do to prevent a
reoccurence. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Hi,

Turn on the firewall, that's probably the biggest problem. Reinstalling
won't remove a virus unless you are formatting and reinstalling (I suspect
you are not).

Unless you clean up your browsing habits, things like this will continue
to occur.

There are several essential components to computer security: a
knowledgeable and pro-active user, a properly configured firewall,
reliable and up-to-date antivirus software, and the prompt repair (via
patches, hotfixes, or service packs) of any known vulnerabilities.
The weak link in this "equation" is, of course, the computer user.
No software manufacturer can -- nor should they be expected to --
protect the computer user from him/herself.

Hi there, does this means that this kinda thing only happens if someone go to certain sites that attract the porn sites to attach themselves to favorites?
