reinstall Word 2000 key number not available

My computer went down sometime ago and I lost everything including Word
connection. In order to reinstall it tells me to enter a 25 character key
number which I do not have. Word was already installed when computer was
purchased. Now what do I do to get it reconnected? I miss it so much. Thanks!

You may be able to get a replacement number from Microsoft at the
number listed in this article:

The article lists the information you need to have ready when you
call.

Because the program came with your computer, though, Microsoft may
tell you that you have to contact the computer's manufacturer for a
new number. The reason is that the manufacturers buy licenses from
Microsoft for a very low price on the condition that Microsoft doesn't
have to do any support for them. According to the OEM agreement, the
manufacturer is supposed to include the code along with the disks, but
it's clear that not all of them do.

Look over all the materials that came with your computer--all the stuff you
didn't pay any attention to when you were setting it up but (I hope) have
stashed in a safe place. Somewhere you will find a Certificate of
Authenticity that contains the key code. Most likely it is on the case or
envelope from which you took the CD to reinstall from.
