reinstall/recovery

I am having tons of issues with my pc (vista home premium). I think the
registry might be corrupted. No one seems to know how to remedy the
problems. I was thinking about using the recovery dvd's for my laptop. i
use this pc for work and have thousands of email, onenote, vpn....etc. i
understand this will erase my hard drive and one of the problems i am having
is "windows back up" doesnt work (ironic)... is there some sort of way i can
back up my computer then reinstall vista(use recovery dvd) and transfer that
backup to my laptop. If i create an image with back up software will that
just reinstall all the corrupted files (registry..etc)...

is there anyway to reinstall vista without erasing the hard drive?

Did you try setting up a new User instead? That gives a fresh Registry hive
under Current User and might fix some of the problems.

Hi Steve, LTNS. Glad to see you.
You should try Windows Live Mail, it has Communities too, and skydrive is
pretty neat. (I hear Win Mail is as dead as OE. I bet Tom is livid :) )

Wonder if you could boot up in Safe mode - then you should have access
to files and folders, and able to copy them off somewhere safe! even
email.
then i really really suggest you (after reinstall) partition your hard
drive, and set your email store folder over there on that partition,
same for any files/doc's etc, then in future should you find yourself
in this situation you'l be able to reinstall and not lose anything,
you'd just reset your email to that store folder an dall will be
recovered, plus I'd recommend Acronis backup, or norton Ghost, and
store a backup of "C" on the other partition - it'll make life easy
for overcoming software causing system failures.
and also mean you can recover your system in about 10-15 minutes and
only need to catch up on any updates sice the date of that backup.

Hi marfer,

I wondered if that were you. My impressions of WalMail are not printable.

I'm still developing for OE and WinMail, so someone else can fool with the
other if they wish. I've spent over 11 years on OE / WM, so I'm not about
to try other mail programs. Tom dropped out a couple years ago, and there
are only a few of us left.

cheers,

steve
