Reinstall Problem

When I go to re-install XP Home using the cd from compaq that came with my
notebook, when I reach the step where the computer looks for a previous
version of windows, it stays on the same blue screen for hours, never finding
anything.

What do I do to resolve this?

if you can format the drive (you lose everything) or start the install from
inside the XP OS, that has worked for me

Check the Compaq Help/Support within your computer. Should be under Compaq
in All Programs. You may find an option there to do a Full Restore froma
hidden partition on your hard drive. Otherwise, the Full Restore option
should prompt you to insert your Compaq Restore CD and press Enter.
