ReInstall of Windows XP PRo- Files missing?

I am having problems with some components in XP Pro not working. This
started after removing several programs using add/delete from the control
panel. I would like to know if I can reinstall over Windows to have it put
files back in that might be missing without loosing my other programs.
Is this possible?

Most of your program will still work and you files should be their if you
reinstall right

Try this before you try a reinstall:
Start>Run> type "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) >OK

Yes, that's the first thing to do, but to answer your original question
- yes, you can do a Repair Install. Here's a link to instructions:

And just as a gentle reminder, even though a Repair Install should not
hurt your programs and data, bad things can happen to nice machines
(and people) and you should back up your data regularly.
