Reinstall of Win2000pro

Doug

I have a clean reformatted HD, after a HD crash, and I am
trying to reinstall win2000pro. With the makeboot utility
on the 2000CD I can make the 4 bootable floppies.

The boot procedure begins but freezes on a corrupt
openhci.sys in the second floppy. I have determined that
this is the generic driver for usb1 ports.

How can I complete my reinstall?

Hi Dave,

Have tried 3 fulls sets of floppies so far, and they all
hang on openhci.sys.

I have instructed the BIOS to boot from the CD but this
failes.

I have booted up DOS to explore the Win2000 CD and have
tried to run setup.exe and winnt.exe, but I am told that
these programmes don't run in DOS mode.

Regards

Try creating another set or just boot the CD-Rom

You didn't say why it fails, but look for a key stroke (possibly F2) just
after POST to make it boot from the CD-Rom.

Hi Dave,
The PC belongs to a friend that lives many miles from me
so we are doing this by remote.

The BIOS is told to boot from the CD and the changes are
saved. Then when the boot coninues the CD lights for one
or two seconds (I think this is called presenting). But
the CD does not spin up and the reboot starts again. But
the CD is working OK because we can make the 4 floppies
from the CD.

I have now advised my friend to simply remove the file
openhci.sys from the 2nd boot floppy, and its seems to
have sailed thru OK! Last I heard we were well into the
full installation. Fingers crossed.

If youhave the win 200 cd, go into your bios and make the 1st boot device the cd.
