Reinstall "invalid product key"

After a recent bout with"AVG", the suggested repair was a reinstallation of
XP. When asked for the"product key", I used the one off of the cd wrapper,
(same as the previous "legit" install), and everything shuts down right there
with "Invalid Product Key". Microsoft support is confusing, as well. Can
anyone help?

Contact Microsoft to get a new key..
