Can you find out what version of windows a product key will work o

I have a legit product key that i want to re-install, unfortunatly the cd has
been lost. i have bought a new HOME OEM cd without key cheap, BUT it say my
product ke is invalid.

so what i would like to know is there somewhere you can enter your key and
it will tell you which versions of windows that key will install on.

I know its XP HOME but obviously not all keys work on all disks (as i have
found out to my cost!).

If you copy someone else's 'standard' (non-OEM, or 'preinstalled') system
setup disk (for Home edition) to your hard drive, and run setup from the i386
folder there, your Product key will work fine. (if the key was used in the
last 120 days, you will need to use the 'phone in' option)
