regular import of excel spreadsheet to append

I have developed a customer database and will be receiving an excel
spreadsheet each month to update the existing database.
Is there a way for me to easily append this spreadsheet onto the existing
database, and check if any of the customers already exist.

Define "easily" ... <g>

You can link to the Excel spreadsheet from Access, then use an append query
to add the records.

NOTE: you will need to have a way to tell Access how to know "if any of the
customers already exist" -- how will YOU know?
