Regular features stopped working

I have Outlook 2003 installed on two machines. An XP machine and a Vista
(Business) machine.

About 6 months ago the Outlook installed on XP stopped checking for new
messages every 5 minutes. It still says that it's set to check for messages
every 5 minutes, but it doesn't. I have to manually click "Send/Recieve" to
get new messags.

And then, yesterday, the Outlook installed on Vista stopped filtering junk
mail. I have my security settings set up to route ALL incoming messages into
Junk E-mail, unless the sender is on my Safe List. But this stopped working,
and all Junk mail is coming to my inbox. The senders are not on my safe list,
and the settings show everything is still set up correctly.

It's very confusing why these features would just fail, and stay down.

On the XP machine;
-verify that it is not set to Work Offline; File-> uncheck Work Offline

On the Vista machine
-verify that you don't have yourself listed in the Safe Recipients list

Thanks for your reply.

On the XP machine: Outlook was not set to Work Offline. There was no check
next to the menu option.
