On completion of start-up this message is displayed; "One of the files
containing the systems registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or
alternate copy. The recovery was successful"
This comes up every time it starts.
Prior to this, the computer would only go just into windows and then only
display the mouse pointer on a black background. Pointer can move! managed to
start with "use last known good start menu".
would a cfg /scannow be of any help ?
Any assistance will be appreciated.

This is a recurring problem?

One of the major causes of recurring registry corruption problems is
defective RAM.

Download one of the following free memory testing utilities and run it
to check out the RAM in your computer. It is best to let the test run
for an extended periond (e.g. overnight) as not all errors will be
caught on the first pass.

Good luck

Thank you Ron. Tried your suggested remedies, but unfortunately this didn't
work and the same message comes up at every startup. The machine wirks
ferfectly, but it is annoying. Any other suggestions ?
