My friends computer [XP Home fully up to date] repeatedly displays the
following message after start up:

One of the files containing the systems registry data had to be recovered by
use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful.

We have run 'chkdsk /f' and no issues are fixed or reported. The machine is
kept reasonably well defragged.

Any ideas?

Thanks fr your time and assistance, best regards

It's kind of a stab in the dark, but have you checked the RAM?

memtest86 is a good one.

Thank you for your input Paul, I had intented doing a thorough round of
testing when next visiting my friend. The results will be posted here on
completion.

Best regards,

Stan
