Registry NLS_LANG for Oracle client

I have a w2k professional in italian language.
I have installed the client of Oracle in 8.1.6 version in
italian language, but this vesion is depend of language of
O.S..
Howeverthe language of Oracle client installed is american
english. In the Registry of the O.S.
is :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->SOFTWARE-->ORACLE_HOME--
