Registry : HKCU and EnableAutoproxyResultCache

C

Carmine Coppola

Hello,

I've read article Q271361 and since I'm using a Squid proxy I would like any
user who can log on my workstation could read/write this registry key:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\EnableAutoproxyResultCache", 0, "REG_DWORD" .

Unfortunately, normal users (Users Group :: no admin privileges) haven't
permissions to write this key.

Could you help me in setting this key/rule for existent and new users ?
Should it be possible to write a HKLM key for this ?

Thank you for your help,

Carmine Coppola.

I think you may use this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\EnableAutoproxyResultCache", 0, "REG_DWORD" .

To set the permission of this key for the users group.

I tried this but it seems that didn't work ! :(

I tried also :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Intern
et Settings\EnableAutoproxyResultCache

but nothing !

Do you think I've other chances ?

Thank you for your help,

Hi,
Every user has the full permission of the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" hive and any
key under it.
So,you said the user hasn't the permission to read or write the key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\EnableAutoproxyResultCache", 0, "REG_DWORD"

Are you sure of it? Are there any error info? If so,post them.

Hi Heelen,

I'm sorry but correct key explained by Microsoft in Q271361 was :

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Intern
et Settings\EnableAutoproxyResultCache"

Unfortunately, also if unprivileged users have full permission grant on
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER", that is not true for any key under it. In fact,
if you try, probably you'll notice that on :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

unprivileged users (Default Group: "Users") have read permission only.

How can I do now !?!? :(

Thank for your help and regards,

Carmine Coppola.

Hi,
I've taken a test, which proved that the users-group have the permission to
read&write the following key:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings"

Hi,
run "gpedit.msc"
select "User Profile"--"Manage Templates"(I don't know if I translated
exactly,because mine OS is Chinese)--"Windows XXX"---"Internet Explorer"
set "Disable caching of Auto-Proxy scripts" start.
It's available to all users.
