Registry Error in XP Home

(Registry File Failure) The registry cannot load the hive
(file): filename or its log or alternate. It is corrupt,
absent, or not writeable.

Are there any tools or procedures that can help me with
this error.

Sounds like a reinstall of the OS. HERE is a TIP

If you boot up to the XP CD and DO a repair of the OS you won't lose
anything it just fixes the OS. Its not the first repair option you see when
you get to the blus screen its the second REPAIR option after pressing F8 to
agree to the lisc. agreement.
