Harry,
I have the PHM Registry Editor working on my Pocket PC (WM2003) and use it
occasionally, especially during some testing when I need to reset some
settings. I too did use the eVC++ 3.0 Registry Editor but it does not seem
to work any more so instead of spending any more time on it, I now use the
PHM.
The free PHM Registry Editor, version 0.70, does not install correctly when
using ActiveSync 3.7.1 (or later). You need to install it manually. Here are
my notes on how to do this:
PHM REGISTRY EDITOR
The download file PHMRegEdit.msi should be run and installed on the desktop.
However, the current version 0.70 of PHM Registry Editor cannot be installed
if the latest ActiveSync 3.7.1 (or later) is installed on the desktop. Not
even changing its .INI files will install it.
The PHM Registry Editor needs to be installed manually for ActiveSync 3.7.1
(or later). This can be done as follows:
i) Close all windows and ensure that you are back to the Windows Desktop
ii) Right-click on the My Computer icon and click on the Explore item to
start up the Windows Explorer
iii) On the left-hand pane, navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\PHM\PHM
Registry Editor.
iv) Click on the "regedit.Mrln_ARM.CAB" file on the right-hand pane to
highlight it.
v) On the Windows Desktop, double-click on the My Computer icon then
double-click on Mobile Device and you will see a folder My Pocket PC on the
list.
vi) Now drag and drop the "regedit.Mrln_ARM.CAB" file from the Windows
Explorer onto the My Pocket PC folder on the other screen.
vii) On the Pocket PC itself, make sure you are back on the Today screen
viii) Tap on Start then tap on Programs then tap on File Explorer
ix) Once started, under the word "File Explorer", change the folder to My
Device if it is not already there. You should see the file "regedit.Mrln_."
at the bottom of the list.
x) Tap on this file to install it. You should see some activity showing that
it is being installed, and then the file you tapped on will disappear.
xi) Close this screen by tapping on the X button on the top right of this
screen and you will return to the list of Programs. You should now see the
PHM RegEdit icon indicating that it has now been installed.
Even though you may not need it now, I thought I would post it in case any
other person may want to know how to install it.
Regards,
Neville Lang
