In Windows XP Pro, using regedit, I accidentally deleted the entry for the windows path and the machine now will not boot

The line is HKey_Local_Machine | system | ControlSet001 | Control | Session Manager | Subsystems | Window

I need to add this Windows line. How can I do this from a command prompt

Andy, one way to do it is to hook up your hard drive to a working
computer and go to X:\windows\system32 folder
Look in there for Config Folder. Make a copy of System, Default, Sam,
Software and Security. Put them in a new
folder and then delete the old ones. Then go to X:\windows\Repair
folder. Copy the same five files and paste them in
the Config Folder. That will restore the registry to its original
condition. You may want to select just the SYSTEM
file first and see if that will work since the only thing you messed
with involves the System string.

follow these steps:

as u start the system keep tapping F8 key --> then from from the following options select "last known good configuration"..it wuld work..
