I bought a sony laptop with xp home edition already installed. Well at least
I thought everything was installed. It turned out that microsoft word etc.
were only trial versions. So my boyfriend and I, who live together, bought xp
home edition. He was able to hook his up fine but I have major problems. I'm
stuck on my log on screen. When I click to log on - I only have 1 profile - a
window comes up asking me if I want to register. If I say remind me later
then it automatically logs me off. If I choose to register online then I get
an error message telling me that it's not possible to do so from location -
I'm in Bermuda. I am at my wit's end!!! If I wait for the error message to
come up then it does switch to another section that allows me to key in a
telephone number to call to connect. When I enter my service provider's phone
number it still can't connect. I don't know what to do - someone please help
me - I need to get into my computer to my files so that I can finish a
presentation by Monday - almost all of my work is backed up on disk so if
necessary I can wipe the computer clean.

Only thing you can do is to go out and purchase a
"Full Version" of Windows XP and perform a
"Repair Install". Your boyfriend caused the problem
by using the same license (Product Key) on two different
computers, which is a violation of the End-User License
Agreement. You'll also need to purchase Microsoft Word
Office, or Works, since none of these applications are
included with the Windows XP operating system.

Microsoft Works Suite 2005 (also includes Microsoft Word)

($99.95 - $20.00 rebate = $79.95) (excellent value)

Carey,

She doesn't need to purchase anything but Office or Word stand alone, all
she needs to do is run the Sony restore procedure. She said she had her info
backed up.

To the Original Poster,
Check your Sony manual or go online to find the instructions on how to
restore the laptop.
XP Home is the operating system and Word is not included. Word is part of
the Office suite, but can be purchased individually. It is also included in
the Works suite.
