Registered memory modules for chipsets working with unbuffered ones?

Are there any kind of problems to be expected, when registered memory
modules (in this case PC-133 and/or DDRAM PC3200) are put to work with a
chipset, which doesn't require buffered/registered modules?

What about mixed environments with already existing unbuffered and to be
added buffered modules?

Should it work or is it well known to cause problems or to not work at all?

The chipsets in question are VIA MVP3 (PC-133) and nForce2 (PC3200).

im on the understanding that the mobo has to support ECC enabled ram

if no support = will not work at all

The question wasn't about ECC, it was about buffered/registered or not ;-)

And at least back in the days of good old 72pin FP or EDO modules, it didn't
matter for a chipset not supporting ECC, if the module was.
Those additional bits simply didn't got used.

Shouldn't have changed with newer types like 168pin SDRam or DDRam, but I
don't know for sure.
