registered converter for PPT 97

I am trying to open a power point presentation created in
ppt 2000 or later in power point 97 and I am getting the
message below:

"Power Point could not open a presentation. A registered
converter was not found and may need to be reinstalled."

I have downloaded and installed the master presentations
converter, but that did not work. Can anyone help???

You wouldn't need a converter to open PPT2000 files in PPT97 - they share the
same format. It might be that a graphics filter is missing. See if you can
import JPG and PNG files into your copy of PowerPoint 97. If not, you'd want
to rerun setup and add the necessary graphics filters.
