regedit closes automatically

I'm a novice, or less. I'm trying to follow some posted
instructions on stopping trojans, which involves backing
up then changing the registry. When I run "regedit" the
editor window closes itself before I can do anything. Is
this normal or do I need a fix before proceeding with the
planned fix?

Have you tried starting your computer in safe mode to
make the registry changes you need to make?
