Is the regclean.exe program able to run on Win/xp? I have
been using it on 95/98 & 98se and it really does clean up
the registery.

The old RegClean utility is not compatible with Windows XP.
It really is not necessary to use a registry cleaner, but if you insist,
System Mechanic (www.iolo.com) is an excellent choice.

Hi, Carey,
I thought cleaning the registry kept your system running smoother and
quicker.
Does Win-XP clean the registry in the background?

Hi,

I have tried Regclean on XP and it has it's uses (I guess). I ran it 3
times in a row, each time with a reboot in between.

The first time it removed/fixed about 500 entries in a 78 kB undo
file, the second and third time about 350 entries in a 60 kB undo
file.

I then compared all three with Araxis Merge (great tool by the way).
The first run had deleted/fixed some 150 entries that were not
deleted/fixed by the 2nd and 3rd run (probably gone forgood), but the
other about 350 entries (that had been deleted/fixed) were identical
in all three runs.

Which leads me to conclude that a large part of the registry is
monitored by XP itself and does not look kindly upon meddling in the
Registry, or just plainly resets it to it's own desired values

I hope it helps a bit.

Regards

Christiaan

Don't know if it helps or not, but I think I'm just going to leave the
registry un-cleaned!
