regain screen

Updated callwave and webroot sweeper software and subsequently lost my
visual display. Screen black. Doesn't show start up screen either when I
turn laptop off and reboot. Every thing "appears" to be working except the
screen. I cannot even go to the bios or use any of the function keys to
correct the "crash" problem. Does any of this sound familiar? If so please
contact and lend me a hand.

If you can't access the video even on the bootup, it doesn't show the
manufacturer's splash screen or the bios information just after turning on
the system, you apparently have a major hardware problem and it is unlikely
related to the software updates. Since this is a laptop, turn off the
system. Plug in a working monitor to the VGA port on the laptop, turn on
the monitor and then turn on the computer. Hopefully the system will show
the bios information on the monitor (some automatically switch to the vga
port if a monitor is connected and turned on when power is first applied to
the laptop.) If it does, this may help you track your problem. If nothing
shows, it's time to send the machine for repairs IMHO.
