Refreshing a Caption number

I noticed that I can add caption with numbers to all pictures, figures,
etc.but when I add a picture I have had to go to each subsequent picture and
update the field to get the new number. Is there a way to have this happen
as you add or insert captions, updating all sequence numbers in one shot?

Actually, Word should be doing this if you're using Insert/Caption. Manually...
Sorta depends on the version of Word, and whether captions have been inserted
into text boxes?
