Refresh rate problem

Hi!

I would like to know if I am the only one to have this issue and also what
to do in order to correct it.

Once in a while (every 5 to 6 times every 20 times that I boot) the refresh
rate goes down to 60 hz even though I had but it to 85 hz. When I go to the
advance tab in order to fix the refresh rate, it says 85 hz even though I
know that it is not the case. Therefore, I bring it down to 75 hz (then it
gets better) and then back to 85 (then everything is fine).

Is this a driver issue!

My videocard is ATI 9800pro
Anu$ P4C800 deluxe
P4 3 Ghz
DDR Corsair 1024 Megs

Many thanks!!

If you are running an LCD monitor, then 60 hz is fine. different technology
than the crt's....

There is a "60 hz refresh rate fix" out there if you are using an nvidia
based card. search google and you will find

Did you get a floppy disk with your monitor? I did but floppy was made
for Win95, it's just an INF file to tell Windows what make/model and
refresh rates/resolutions the monitor supports.

In certain games (like BF 1942) my refresh rate would drop to 60Hz, I
know my monitor is capable of 75Hz @ the resolutions I use, so in the
ATI control panel/Displays/Monitor part, I set Refresh Rate Override to
75hz and it plays nice now.

One thing I noticed is my Plug n Play monitor when run at resolutions
that can't run at 75Hz it auto sets the refresh rate it supports anyway,
so no harm done. ;p

What monitor does your system report as detected? If you use Windows,
and the OS does not know the brand/model of your monitor in device
manager, then an update is needed. You will get better results if you
can find the INF file for your monitor and OS.

You can also disable DDC and force a refresh rate of your choice with
ATI drivers using controlpanel/display/advanced/displays , click on
the button above your monitor and disable DDC in the dialog shown,
then set the res/refresh you desire. Be careful to choose settings
that are appropriate for your monitor. I disable the DDC option
typically to force higher refresh rates at lower res settings, and
this is also useful with some gaming scenarios, e.g., opengl games
where the game fails to setup opengl refresh rates properly.
