I would like to reformat my computer. Some programs are not working properly and files are missing etc. I want to get rid of everything and start over. I have all the cd's that came with the computer for reinstalling everything but do not know where to begin . Please help.

Boot from the XP CD. Choose "R" to repair an installation and "log on"
to your existing C:/WINDOWS. When it asks for the administrator
password, don't worry, if there isn't one you can just press return.

When you get the C:/WINDOWS> prompt, you can type FORMAT C: and it will
do it. When you're done type "EXIT" and the computer will reboot - then
it's like you had a clean disk and setup will run as usual.

An MVP may come along with some caveats or improvements, but this worked
for me.

You'll obviously have to activate again.

If you only have mfg cds and not a windows xp cd,start with disc #1,format
and recovery cd.Load the cd,restart computer, the cd should start automatically
select, format and recovery, recovery only simply reinstalls the software. If you hav
a xp cd from microsoft, install xp cd,exit the info page, restart computer, boot to cd
select install xp at the info page, new copy, the hd gets reformatted auto then re
installs xp.
