I am having a problem whilst trying to reformat my hard drives (c: and d:).
With past computers I have been able to reformat by using the Windows disk.
With my latest PC I have a problem when I get to the stage where I am asked
the 3 questions 1. Do you want to install windows. 2. do you want to Repair
(I forgot the 3rd) I choose the first option and instead of going through the
usual procedure I get a message that reads "Setup did not find any hard drisk
installed on your computer. Makes sure any hard disks are powered on and
properly connected to your comptuer". I assume that my PC has not been set up
properly when it was built. I have tried going back to the guy that built it
but he never fixes the problem! I'm wondering if it is something that I can
try and fix myself. I am not very computer literate but I can follow fairy
simple instructions.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Google for "F6 during Windows XP install"...
In other words - you need the driver diskette for your controller
card/chipset for your hard disk drives...

i think you have a corrupt format...your xp disk sees format but when it trys
to install the format isn't right .....download this
http://dban.sourceforge.net/ it will fit on a floppy...stick it into floppy
drive restart pc click fast wipe...it will wipe everything off hard drive
!! may take 1 or 2 hrs ....take floppy out put in windows cd restart pc
.....windows cd should say blank drive do you want to partion? click yes then
it should offer to format...click yes...then install windows...

ok i reread your post...has this computer been running for you ???? if you
have never had this pc running thats differt....if you never had it running
you have to check the jumpers and maybe it just won't run with 2 hard
drives....need more info
manly have you been using this computer????

Try these things first:
1) Reboot computer and press "Del" or "F2" button for entering into BIOS
setup.
2) There you go into system or IDE settings and try to detect the hard disk
with "Auto Detect drives" option.
3) If your Hard disk is not detected there then remove the hard disk and
again plug-in carefully with proper jumper and cable settings. You may read
the manuals and documentation for the same which may have come with your
computer.
4) Now again try to detect the same by going into BIOS. If it's detected
then test the hard drive by looking into the setup options again in BIOS.
5) Finally try to boot from the bootable CD and re-install windows.
Hopefully it will work for you.
