'Allo all.

I'm having a wee problem. Firstly, I had my comp custom built and the
guy put XP pro on it. I have recently developed a wicked nasty virus.
I dont know the specifics on that one. Needless to say I tried using
the restore point to no avail. I also tried purchasing numerous
anti-virus progs (norton, black ice, etc etc) also to no avail.

So. I went out and purchased a copy of XP for myself. I got Home
instead of Pro. I have reformatted my pc to get rid of all of the nasty
crap. I have now tried reinstalling windows. I get to the product key,
and the key that CAME WITH XP Home is apparently 'invalid', much to my
frustration. so....WTF?! anyone know how I can fix this? I'm VERY put
out and trying very hard to be polite. Is there anything I can do?
*sigh* much appreciation in advance for any kind of help.

Are you sure you are entering the key correctly, eg 0 / O - B / 8 can look
similar
And if you truly purchased a retail version, contact MS

PS You dont have to purchase multiple AV apps, you can do online scans from
most suppliers, also malaware / trojans are not neccessarily detected by AV
apps
Presumably your 'guy' didnt supply a winxp pro cd?

Dear Jackal,

Have you tried contacting Microsoft and asking them for a replacement key or
getting them to check if it is a genuine product key?
