Thanks Chris; I'll take a look at this site, I did their house Calls, and they said I had the
worm in three different places, 2 unremovable and 1 they couldn' t locate?
It is quite likely that some at least of those are in restore points -
if you make a new point once other infestations are gone, you can then
run
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup
and in its More Options page click 'delete all but the most recent
restore point' and the infected ones will go.
If it turns out that you *have* to reinstall, first back up data so it
is safe. Then start out with a repair reinstallation, which *may* help.
Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard disk, then boot the XP CD, start
Setup (do not take 'Repair' at this stage), then after the license
agreement take 'Repair Installation'. This will retain your existing
software installations and most settings. But Updates will have to be
run again, especially SP1;
If you find that you must reformat; then instead of repair take New
Install. When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete
the current partition and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next
stage
The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one
Either way, It is vitally important to activate the basic XP Firewall
before you ever connect to the net to get the patches, so as not to be
reinfected by things like the BLAST worm within minutes
